In short, we recycle carbon. Through pyrolysis, we prevent new emissions from entering the atmosphere via degradation and instead, convert the carbon into a form that can be used again beneficially. This process reverses the direction of potential emissions and enables new asset creation within the carbon cycle, while eliminating what would otherwise be waste. Circularity is key to a sustainable future.

The global steel industry accounts for approximately 8% of global CO2 emissions, with an estimated 3.6 billion tons of CO2 being emitted per annum. Yet, the steel industry is vital to global growth and economic security. Karmanterra has developed a unique and cost effective solution to decarbonize this hard to abate sector by offering unique products that perform at the highest levels.
According to the U.N., the pace of global desertification is increasing by 30x its natural, historical rate. Higher temperatures and lesser amounts of arable land due to human intervention and changing weather patterns, create less natural rainfall and less land for agriculture adding to inflationary pressures and food insecurity.
Innovations such as electric vehicles, batteries and AI super computers require an immense amount of conductive carbon materials, which are typically not available in quantity in many regions. The global supply of graphite is dwindling and predominantly found in Asia, while moreover, other base metals such as nickel and cobalt are destructive and can be directly traced to child labor. Karmanterra is working with key collaborators on using its pyrolyzed carbon materials for development of battery anodes.
By utilizing previously discarded raw materials and refining them to spec, Karmanterra is creating new carbon supply chains that solve multiple global challenges.
Phasing out the use of petcoke and coal will allow hard to decarbonize industries like steel and cement to reduce carbon emissions and acheive net zero targets. Greener steel and cement is possible through the use of biocarbons.
Globally, nearly 12 million hectares of land become desertified every year. As this trend continues to increase, major disruptions await for food production, mass migrations, and increasing temperatures. Fortunately, biochar can help mitigate these issues.
As a lightweight and highly conductive element, Carbon is a key component of new and emerging technologies. US made, low-cost sources of high performance carbon materials will ensure the continued growth of innovative technology.
